...was one of the worst movies I have ever had the displeasure of casting my gaze upon.
Ok. So maybe there was a little bias and some exaggeration. Maybe I wasn't being completely fair either. But I was furious. It was like the makers of the movie hadn't even watched the first one. Or they had taken glances at it playing on their tv as they cleaned their house. It's like they picked out one or two traits that the characters had in the first movie and made them their full characters. During the first five minutes of the movie, I half expected Crysta to turn to the screen and say "Ok kids! You join in too!" Batty was just annoying though he ended up being my favorite character in that movie just because he still had a brain. But I think the worst alteration was Pips. In fact, it wasn't so much alteration as it was TOTAL DESTRUCTION. I wanted to cry. I loved him in the first one. More than Zak, and that's a lot a lot. How did his character in the first movie influence them to make him an annoying idiot who really really likes humans (excuse me?) and totally abuses his precious pan flute to play annoying tricks. Here's what I get from it. They looked at him and Crysta racing in movie one. They turned it into outright competitiveness and being a sore loser who doesn't like trees? (Wait, what?) Two. They looked at him picking a fight with Zak. They turn him into a playground level bully. Three. They saw his total obsession with Crysta. And they totally left it out. (B- b- b- but- but- buuuuut!) I don't even know where the outright stupidity came from. And I'm not exaggerating when I say this. I kid you not. One minute, he bravely proclaims that he is going to go rescue some animal babies (eh?) and the next, he's playing merrily at a carnival to a song that, no lie, had the words "funner than the funnest fun" in it. Let me repeat that for you. "Funner than the funnest fun." What the crap?! First you think, naw, he can't be that dumb. Surely he must remember that he has to save the babies. But no. Right after the "fun" sequence, Batty reminds him of what he's supposed to be doing and he's like "Oh my gosh! The babies!" D= WHAT? Leaving out the rest of that barely thought out plot, he gets the last line in the movie saying "You can make your own fun. All it takes is a little imagination!". Wow, what a way to sum up my wasted hour and ten minutes. I'll just "imagine" that I never saw this and re-watch the first one several times for therapy. I told my friend earlier that this movie was comparable to watching a really long Disney movie cartoon. Y'know, the ones where they feel some strange need to make a corny cartoon using the lesser characters of a good movie or the main characters at a...lesser time. Things like Young Hercules, The Emperor's New School, etc. Where's the creativity?
Ok, so I know I'm ranting, but just let me do this. It's stress relief. Long story short (kinda) they took a good movie with depth and witty humor, and made a wacky sequel that even the kids they're targeting are suspicious of. I'm most disappointed because I would love an actual good sequel. But there will never be one and this is what makes me sad.(But anyone who wanted to draw Pips/Crysta pictures for me would certainly cheer me up hint hint.
In happier news, I had a chocolate muffin for breakfast. It was good.
